the creative revolution
Black on State is a global movement rooted in the power of Black creativity, community, and visibility.
What began in downtown Madison is now evolving into something much larger—a bold vision to transform the most influential streets in cities around the world into platforms where Black and minority voices, art, and entrepreneurship thrive. We believe that creativity is a pillar of society, and that Black creatives deserve space at the center of culture, commerce, and community decision-making. Black on State exists to amplify that presence—turning city centers into creative corridors for connection, inspiration, and economic impact.
The Black on State Festival is our annual flagship event that brings this vision to life on the ground.
Held each year in Madison, Wisconsin, it transforms two city blocks into a vibrant celebration of Black culture, creativity, and entrepreneurship. From live performances and local vendors to food trucks, kids’ activities, and wellness zones, the festival is where the community gathers, reclaims space, and experiences the future we’re building—together.
